Ultrasound is a very safe and effective diagnostic technique, so it is widely used in children. This method does not provide any pain and discomfort for child.

There are few limitations of US to maintain significant quality and patient`s safety during the scanning:

• widespread inflammation of the skin above the area of examination;
• recent operation for the transrectal and transvaginal ultrasound;
• full stomach and intense gas-producing for abdominal ultrasound;
• menstrual period day mismatch with doctor`s order.

For superficial scanning physician applies special gel to the skin in purpose to improve contact between transducer and the skin. Thus, ultrasound waves easily pierce into the body. During transvaginal examination, a special transducer is used to achieve better quality and accuracy.

Before the test patient should take off the clothes above the area of examination and lie down on the couch. Depending on the US aim, physician would use different transducer, but anyway there are no pain during the ultrasound scanning at all.

Usually, ultrasound is performed for examination of the soft tissues, the abdominal cavity and the pelvis, the breasts, the heart, vessels and the thyroid.

• Nephrolithiasis and cholelithiasis, nephroptosis, pyelonephritis, kidney abscess, the suprarenal glands hyperplasia;
• Chronic prostatitis, prostatic hypertrophy;
• Autoimmune thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, diffuse goitre.

• Ultrasound is a non-invasive method of imaging which does not use X-ray, so it has no limitation in number of examination;
• Other advantage of ultrasound is an opportunity to examine multiple organs during one procedure;
• US has no contraindications and appears to be one of the safest imaging option.
